Right in time for the new ski season, 2022 promises to be a year that is action-packed with new gear to hit the slopes in style. Whether it’s black diamond grading or simply handling the slope in style, choosing the right ski gear depends on your specific needs —especially when the bitter cold days take control.
Whether you’re looking for one item or the whole shabang, my team and I reviewed (and sometimes tested) close to a hundred items and found the winners the best ski wear and ski gear to be a perfect blend of wicked style and high performance. It is no secret that skiers and snowboarders face extreme weather conditions on the slopes, with heavy snow, icy winds and nail-biting cold temperatures.
That being said, jackets must be water resistant, windproof and breathable- equipped with large hoods, tons of pockets, and tech-savvy insulation packed into a modular hard or soft shell. If I can give you one solid piece of advice; prepare for the weather.
There's more to skier comfort than breathable fabrics. For example, ventilation will play a big part in the functionality of your items. In addition to ski gear, it is important to wear the right base layers, ski pants, gloves and goggles to help keep you on your toes when venturing to snow capped mountains.
And given that you will be traversing the slopes with belongings from smartphones to wallets, it is best to purchase items that offer a good amount of useful pockets to place items for convenience. For me, the most important pocket is the chest pocket because it is useful for the essentials such as goggles, while other pockets will serve you well for your personal items or even a dedicated pass pocket to be better equipped while going through the turnstile. And when it comes to a hood, be mindful to ensure that it is helmet-compatible and can handle a few inches more than your head size.
