Ornot pairs up with Polartec again to create the ultimate all-weather off-road riding jacket… the all-new Trail Magic Jacket. Combining the most breathable, waterproof NeoShell with their superlight & fast-drying Alpha Direct insulation, the Trail Magic Jacket promises comfort and versatility in all cold and foul weather riding conditions…

Ornot’s new Trail Magic jacket is a direct follow-up to their Magic Shell from a couple of winters ago. Designed to ride in the rain and the cold, their new “Ultimate Jacket” is more waterproof than ever, adds a helmet-friendly hood for even more protection, and gets a removable insulation vest to keep riders comfortable in a wider range of conditions.

And following their signature tagline, you can wear it on the road, gravel, or mountain bike… or not. It’s a jacket all about versatility, what they call “like a mountaineering jacket, with a fit optimized for riding, but loose enough for casual, day-to-day use“.

The key tech of Ornot’s new Trail Magic jacket boils down to more cooperation with technical fabric maker Polartec, and the first-ever combination of NeoShell protection and Alpha Direct insulation in one jacket.

Polartec NeoShell is a surprisingly stretchy, windproof & waterproof softshell fabric. And in the new Trail Magic jacket, Ornot tapes the seams to keep rain out (unlike the untaped Magic Shell). Polartec says it’s the “world’s most breathable waterproof fabric technology“.

Inside the Trail Magic jacket, Ornot zips in a removable Polartec Alpha Direct insulated vest – which can also be worn separately. One of the best types of on-the-bike insulation we’ve used, the soft & fuzzy inner layer wicks moisture away from your body during hard efforts (even nicely next to skin) and dries super fast, even letting cooling airflow in really well when you open up any outside vents.

The Ornot describes their Trail Magic jacket as 99% windproof and waterproof, with these two Polartec bluesign-approved fabrics.

The jacket uses a 2-way non-waterproof YKK zipper to make it easy to access jersey pockets and to regulate temperature as you ride.

It features an adjustable hood that will fit over a helmet, an eco-friendly DWR coating, 2 front handwarmer pockets, and one full-width side-access rear pocket.

Unlike much of Ornot’s gear that is US-made, the Trail Magic jacket is not made in the USA.

The Ornot Trail Magic jacket is available now for $384. And since it’s made by Ornot it’s both certified Climate Neutral and 1% of its sale gets put aside For the Planet. Trail Magic comes in six fitted sizes (XS-XXL), but still “loose enough for casual day-to-day use”. Pick it up either Gravel gray with a navy blue vest or all-black.

Buy it now to ride gravel, ride mountain bikes, or not. Use it as an everyday foul-weather jacket, if you prefer.

The updated 2022 magic shell has taped seams and it is a fantastic piece of kit.

There is so much to digest in that last picture! Is that a Zefal frame pump? What is going on with those rack mounts on the Stiggy fork?

Yes. It’s a zefal frame pump, but it’s the newer kind, made mostly from plastic ( but still has the same design and function as the ones for the 80s/90s ). That stigmata was broken by the baggage handlers, so after getting the frame repaired, it became a super commuter. The eyelets on the fork were epoxied and Carbon wrapped on when the frame was being repaired. It’s a fun bike!
