NEW ORLEANS – The season is officially underway!

Here is the newest edition of the NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll for the 2022 season, as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. Remember that this poll is conducted by counting votes from eight member coaches – one from each of the division’s eight regions – who also do the Regional Rankings.

The top-3 teams in the National Coaches’ Poll from the preseason held steady in Week 1: Adams State, who received all eight first-place votes, remained No. 1, followed by No. 2 Grand Valley State and No. 3 Augustana (S.D.).

UC-Colorado Springs leapfrogged Colorado School of Mines for the No. 4 spot, while the Orediggers fell back to No 5. The Mountain Lions hosted the 15th Annual UCCS Rust Buster and romped to a convincing win with 17 points. Layla Almasri posted a convincing victory as she led a Mountain Lion sweep of the top-3 spots.

The only change in the next five positions on the National Coaches’ Poll comes from Cedarville, who jumped four spots from No. 12 to No. 8. The Yellow Jackets had a solid opening meet at the Mike Baumer XC Classic, finishing fifth behind NCAA DI competition.

No. 6 Wingate, No. 7 Western Colorado, No. 9 Simon Fraser and No. 10 Lee (Tenn.) all held steady.

Other teams that improved their billing in Week 1 are No. 13 Colorado Christian, No. 15 Hillsdale, No. 18 CSU Pueblo, No. 21 West Texas A&M and No. 22 Wayne State (Mich.).

Azusa Pacific moved from the Land of Receiving Votes to No. 28, while Pittsburg State comes in at No. 30 after not being ranked in the preseason.

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 2, as the 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will take place at Chambers Bay Golf Club in Tacoma, Washington!
