There's a reason farmhands and ranchers love this outerwear.

Josh Brolin’s latest western in the Josh Brolin Westernverse—a universe that includes everything from The Young Riders to True Grit to No Country for Old Men—finds the actor in Wyoming, staring into a bottomless pit as we all do at the end of a workday.

Brolin’s character in this western, Amazon’s Outer Range, is ranch holder Royal Abbott, patriarch of Abbott Ranch and owner of one great-looking zip jacket with a corduroy collar.

Brolin spends most of the first episode wearing this jacket, which appears to be Carhartt’s Weathered Duck Detroit jacket. The design, according to Carhartt, is favored by farmhands and ranchers. It's made of cotton duck canvas with a blanket body lining and quilted nylon sleeves. The jacket also has three outer zip pockets along with two pockets on the inside.

The costume design for Outer Range will remind TV viewers of that other ranch-centered western, Yellowstone.

In Yellowstone, patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) favors a softshell vest over a denim shirt. Brolin’s style in Outer Range reflects more of the Yellowstone bunkhouse, those who heard cattle and spend most of the day riding. Rip (Cole Hauser), the bunkhouse leader, wears a canvas military jacket over a button-up flannel shirt.

Brolin’s Abbott, unlike Dutton, dresses in a style closer to his children and ranchers, implying a different kind of character relationship; with a much smaller ranch than the Yellowstone, Abbott seems closer to the everyday duties of the land.
